The work of Sam Wood Wilson manipulates space, form, and tension to vacillate between two and three dimensional representation. Utilizing arrays, arrangement, and layering, perception and dimensionality are repeatedly dismantled and reconstructed. The result is a composite of recognizable objects in fields of space. Individual elements are easily lost and found in the composition, yet holistically reinforce the idea of a larger mechanism at work.

When the object and field are applied to the built environment the “place” begins a symbiotic exchange of information. The composition and built environment construct an outcome impossible in singularity. Object and field are dictated by reality.

Nothing motivates my art more than an acute awareness of my own mortality. **
